WELCH HIGH SCHOOL
SENSATIONAL SIXTIES REUNION
June 21-22, 2002
"Dancing In The Streets"
Lots of action shots on this page so it takes a very long time to load.
Again, you may have to click Refresh a few times to get all the pictures
to show up on your screen. Be patient; this is the MOST action-packed
web page from the entire reunion and these photos are really worth waiting
to see.
If you would like to hear some street dancin' music while you wait
for the pictures to load, click HERE
In fact, you really SHOULD listen to the music; it definitely enhances
these particular pictures! You may need to click Refresh or Reload
at the top of your screen to get the pictures to display after you
get the music started.
Charlie Reed, current manager of the Sterling, treated the reunion attendees and their guests to an evening of oldies rock and roll music played by local disc jockey, “Chicago Jim” Cline. Many people found dancing in the Sterling parking lot to the sounds of yesteryear reminiscent of street dances held in Welch in the sixties.
Just looking at these pictures makes one feel young(er) again!
The lady in black is my '61 high school buddy & all-time good friend,
Brenda Conn Norwood dancing with her
friend, Harry. They went home to Atlanta to compete in the 33rd
Peachtree Road Race held on July 4.
No wonder they stay so trim & slim!
“Still like that old time rock ‘n’ roll. That kind of music that soothes
the soul.
I reminisce about the days of old with that old time rock ‘n’ roll.”
If that tune doesn't make you want to get up and dance, you really
are getting old.
See any familiar faces yet?
Nothin' like dancin' under the stars at the Sterling Drive In!
Here are some comments from those who were at the Sterling on Friday night:
" Charlie can still fix'em just like you remember'em!!! Can you think of a better way to start our reunion than revisiting the Sterling Drive In? WOW! and music again like it was when we were there "back in the 60's."To formally thank Charlie Reed for his very special contribution to our reunion, you can mail him at P.O. Box 1001, Welch, WV 24801. Or, stop by the Sterling and personally let him know what a great time you had. A note of interest: several people who had not signed up to attend any of Saturday's reunion events, changed their minds after having so much fun at the Sterling on Friday night."....Heartfelt thanks to Charlie Reed, owner of the Sterling, for providing "Chicago Jim" (Cline) as a most able and energetic D.J. Remember the street dances of our teen years? We had that back on Friday night as we all danced the night away, complete with a "Twist Contest", the "Stroll", "Electric Slide", and plenty of "jitterbuggin' "!!! I swear, everyone looked 16 again (altho' we probably felt 96 the next day!)."
"Music, a live DJ? " What else could you wish for? "
"I had "The Time of My Life" on Friday night."
"....what a blast we all had Friday evening at the Sterling; really took us all back to acting 16, but not feeling 16 the next day! I danced and twisted so much I had to wear an ace bandage on my knee the next day...."
